About

Pete Kassetas and Cody Huffmon, owners of Outpost 1706 have been linked together through family ties for over 35 years.

Pete retired from the New Mexico State Police as the Chief in 2019. He has always been an entrepreneur. Cody works in the medical field.  He has always been a dreamer and is extremely crafty and creative. Both are not afraid of a challenge and hard work.

In early 2020, during the pandemic, Cody and Pete along with Jasper Riddle, who co-owns Plaza Don Luis met in the empty suite that is now the Outpost. Jasper was looking for an established brewery to set up shop in the plaza. Cody had an idea for a restaurant that would complement the brewery.  As the three discussed the space, Cody and Pete were drawn to the natural beauty of Old Town and Plaza Dion Luis. Wood floors and amazing windows overlooking the Old Town Plaza and the San Felipe Church.  They both decided at that moment to make the dream and vision of the Outpost happen.

During the pandemic the two worked on the construction of the taphouse.  They were aided in the design by Cody’s Wife, Paola Huffmon.  Paola along with three other women own the Old Barrel Tea Co. right around the corner in Old Town.  Paola’s knack for design and her love of antiquing/thrifting is why the Outpost is one of the most unique brewery experiences you will encounter. Patrons have commented, “It’s like you are having a drink with friends in your living room.”

The taproom opened its doors on a limited run during the 2021 Balloon Fiesta. It was an immediate hit with tourists and locals. The grand opening was November 27, 2021 and the guys have not looked back.  Cody and Pete support local as they serve New Mexico crafted beer, wine and spirts along with everything else NM has to offer.  Weekend entertainment and food largely consist of local artists and chefs. The guys pride themselves in having a friendly and knowledgeable staff.
